Finding a good pediatric dentist in Brooklyn or any big city can be difficult. While in a smaller town or suburb, you might not have many options, here, you’re faced with so many choices it’s hard to know where to start! We hope that you’ll agree that our very own Dr. Liza Idelchik at A&R Advanced Dental Group in Brooklyn is among the best, but no matter which local pediatric dentist you choose, we want you to find someone who provides exceptional care to your little one. Here are some things you should look for.
Dental Care for Babies and Toddlers
Some parents decide not to find a pediatric dentist and instead take their child to their own general dentist, who may also offer pediatric dentistry services. It’s important to note, though, that offering pediatric dentistry isn’t the same as being a pediatric dentist. Many general or family dentists will not see children until they’re in preschool or even kindergarten. By this time, your child could need extensive dental work.
Dr. Idelchik is a pediatric dentist, which means that after graduating from dental school, she went on to receive training and education in this specialization for an additional 2 years . In fact, she graduated with an honor in Pediatric Dentistry and completed a residency at Columbia Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital where she treated medically complex children and children with special needs. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child see a dentist within 6 months of the first tooth and no later than the 1st birthday.
We are so excited to offer laser dentistry at our Brooklyn office because it makes the experience of visiting the dentist much less stressful for our youngest patients—and even our adult patients too!
No-Drill Cavity Treatment
At A&R Advanced Dental Group’s Brooklyn office, we offer Silver Diamine Fluoride, an antimicrobial liquid that allows us to treat cavities without drilling and filling. It works by stopping cavities from getting bigger; we can apply it on a primary tooth and potentially eliminate the need for a filling at all, or we can use it on a secondary (adult) tooth to delay the need for a filling until your child is older and better able to tolerate the procedure.
We offer safe dental treatment with nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. We even have fun scents for kids to choose from! Laughing gas is widely used for pediatric patients because of its long track record of safety and because it takes effect quickly and wears off just as fast.
Early Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment
In the past, orthodontics focused on correcting problems once the jaw and teeth were fully formed. Now, we know that it’s much more effective to prevent problems from occurring in the first place. Early interceptive orthodontic treatment allows us to do just that by influencing the development of the jaw, preserving space when a tooth is prematurely lost, and breaking bad habits that impact the bite.
