You're thumbing through your favorite celebrity weekly while standing in line at the grocery store and see a story about a reality star getting a new smile thanks to porcelain veneers. You may have wondered how porcelain veneers can improve your smile, but assumed they were out-of-reach for someone like you, a person who does not appear in celebrity weeklies. Well, we have good news for you: here at A&R Advanced Dental Group, we offer veneers as one of our cosmetic dentistry services.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells made to match teeth in color and size. They are bonded to the front of your existing teeth to improve color, size, and shape. You may want to consider porcelain veneers if:
- Your teeth are discolored or stained
- You grind your teeth and they've worn down
- Your teeth have gaps
- You have teeth that are shaped irregularly or uneven
- You have chipped teeth
Some patients only need a single veneer, while others opt to get a complete smile makeover.
What Is the Process to Get Veneers?
During your first visit to our office, we'll discuss your desired outcomes and whether porcelain veneers are right for you. We will take photographs, x-rays and make impressions to assist us with modeling the perfect veneers for you.
We will then use the molds we've created to make temporary veneers. This will help you decide if you like what you see or if you'd like to make adjustments before your permanent veneers are placed. We'll shave a bit of the enamel off your teeth--it's a common misconception that your teeth are shaved down to almost nothing!--and then adhere the temporary veneers.
Once you're ready for your permanent veneers, your tooth will be cleaned and etched to allow the porcelain to attach securely. Dental cement will be applied and the veneer will be carefully placed on the tooth. We use a light to cure the cement; occasionally we may need to remove excess cement or make minor adjustments, but after this, you'll be on your way to enjoying your new smile!
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?
The cost can vary greatly depending on your individual needs--this is something we'll cover when you come in for your consultation. Our billing staff is happy to sit down with you and explain our financing options, including CareCredit.
How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
With good oral hygiene practices and regular maintenance, porcelain veneers last 15 to 20 years. We expect to see you twice a year for cleanings and you should floss whenever you brush your teeth, otherwise your veneers may need to be replaced sooner.
Are Their Alternatives to Porcelain Veneers?
There are many reasons why porcelain veneers may not be the right solution for you. When you come in for a consultation, we'll discuss alternative treatments that have the potential to give you similar results. These may include teeth whitening, dental bonding, and gum contouring.
